Our Students, our Pride!

Outstanding success comes to the students of BJS Wagholi Education Rehabilitation Centre in 10TH STD. The Students from Melghat-Thane tribal region and from farmer suicide affected families of Marathwada, studying in BJS’ Wagholi Education Rehabilitation Centre have passed successfully in the exam of standard 10th. Unfortunately only two students did not pass the exam.  Since 1993, BJS' Wagholi Education Rehabilitation Centre (WERC) gives free education and all other facilities to the students from Std 5 to Std 12 that face problem due to natural calamities at various places.  Out of this, 67 tribal students appeared for STD 10th Exam. And it is notable that 28 percent of these students got more than 70% marks in the exam. Out of these students, Umesh Prakash Bhandari tops the chart with 91%.

http://bjsindia.org/

When in 1997, the children from Melghat were brought to the hostel; the passing percentage was only 20-30 percent. But afterwards, Wagholi Education Rehabilitation Centre took efforts on these students and we take pride in saying that since last ten years, the percentage of passing is 97 to 100. The rise in this percentage is an important factor and it really shows the hard work of the students as well as the teachers and their parents. 63% of tribal students have scored more than 61%. In this, three students from our school have got more than 90% and have secured position in merit list.

BJS brought 288 children of suicide-hit farmer families of Marathwada to Wagholi Education Rehabilitation Centre. Amidst of much difficulties, these students have worked hard and have passed the exam successfully.  The students of 10th STD from Marathwada got only 2-3 months to study. They gave the exam at the centers in their own villages. All these students' family condition is very bad, their fathers have committed suicide in recent past and hence the condition at their homes was very tense. In this adverse condition also, in a very less span, these students have performed well in the STD 10th exam.  So, this outstanding success of these students is the fruit of real hard work and unanimous spirit of every one behind Wagholi Education Rehabilitation Centre.

BJS doing the work of widening and deepening of rivers in villages across Marathwada

In last 2-3 years, scarcity of rainfall has caused acute drought situation in Marathwada. Bhartiya JainSanghtana(BJS) is trying to work give relief to the people here through its different works. With the aim, that the rainfall water gets stored in ponds, lakes and rivers in ample quantity, BJS had did the same work of widening and deepening of ponds,  lakes in 2013 at Beed District and its positive effects are seen in such acute drought situation too.  Same type of work of widening and deepening is being carried out in Marathwada region currently. Huge silt was gathered in the rivers Chousala, Sindphana.

So even after having enough of water storage capacity, these rivers got dried prematurely.  To avoid such problem in future, BJS deployed machinery on these rivers to clean it and worked tirelessly for 106 hours . Due to this work, the area of Chousala river widened by 0.75 kms,and deepened by almost 70 feet, while Sindpfana was widened by 1 km.  Apart from this Kesapuri Parbhani,  Karpara, Bindusara,Dongri rivers at Beed district are undergoing its cleanliness. Even the work of removing silt from the small pond at Kankaleshwar temple is underway.

Such works are also going on at Latur and Osmanabad districts. At Shirur Anantpal, the work was started in the presence of Shri Sunil Kocheta & Municipal Council's Vice Chairman Santosh Shete. Channelizing at Ekondi, Taluka Umarga, District Osmanabad is underway jointly with localities here. Water Restoration Project by Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana brings relief in Beed

While many districts of Maharashtra are facing severe drought, villages in Beed District of Maharashtra are still having sufficient water. Water from lakes of Dhekanmoh, Talwada, Morjalwadi, Nagtalaare is sufficient for every day chores.

From many years Maharashtra is facing drought problems. In the year 2013, Beed was one of the districts that suffered from acute drought. Bharatiya Jain Sanghatana (BJS), a voluntary organization (NGO) operating in the Social Development, Education Initiative and Disaster Response, took the unique initiative of de-silting in order to enhance the capacity of Water Storage.

More than 90 JCBs / Poclains were mobilized and 2000 to 2500 truckloads of silt was removed every day which resulted in completion of de-silting of 115 village water bodies (ponds, tanks) in a month. A total of 20,00,000 cu mtr of silt got removed. This silt was carried away by villagers to be deposited and spread over agricultural lands, which enhanced the fertility and raised agricultural output.

The water storage capacity of these reservoirs got enhanced by 20 lakh litres. Even today, its benefits are reaped by the farmers in the situation of intense drought.
